“I Know You Hate Me” A Lifetime Teacher’s Lament

From a lifetime teacher..
Yeah, I know you hate me. I’ve spent a long time trying to figure out why and I think a lot of it is jealousy. You see, I actually have some feeling of accomplishment in my job. Because I’ve been in the classroom a long time, I not only see children grow and blossom every year, I get to see them return as adults with their own children, explaining how what went on my class helped them grow as a person as well as a student. Nothing can match that feeling.
And now you want to take that away from me.
And have me look into the same abyss so many others do in a nation where almost nothing is produced and most people who work for a living are disposable.
I am really sorry I love my job. I am really sorry I love my students. I am really sorry I have a life filled with meaning.
I know it hurts for you to see it.
And that is really sad.
